ACTSA – Cash-based collateral dethroned

  • 25 June 2013, Johannesburg Country Club, Auckland Park, South Africa
  • July 2013, Cape Town, South Africa (venue to be confirmed)

New regulations will be enforced to mitigate many of the risks in the greater market regarding capital adequacy and leverage. Basel III, Solvency II and Regulation 28 of the Pension Funds Act are examples of these regulations that will place a greater emphasis on the retention of liquid assets on the balance sheet of South African financial institutions.

The trend globally in response to regulations such as these has been to rather substitute high quality liquid securities as collateral for cash as far as possible. As such, it is Strate’s belief that the same trend will apply to South African institutions.

Presenter: Anthony van Eden, Strategic Projects Director, Strate

NeMa Africa

  • 8 – 9 October 2013, Hilton London Tower Bridge Hotel, London, United Kingdom

Today’s business view has it that emerging markets are at the forefront of supplying growth opportunities for global custodians as mature markets show signs of limited opportunity – driven largely by regulation, competition and economic pressures. The set-up of new participants in these markets has led to more competitive pricing and an increase in the range of services on offer to investors. And nowhere is this more evident than in Africa.

NeMa Africa will be bringing together CSDs, custodians, brokers and exchanges from across both Africa and beyond to address the critical issues in these tumultuous times. Regional integration, counterparty risk management and innovative strategies are all at the forefront of the post-trade specialist’s focus.

Monica Singer (Twitter:@MonicaSSinger) CEO of Strate, will address topical issues as part of the CSD Roundtable including: Key Drivers Under The Spotlight, Regional Integration and Harmonization, New services offered and Technological drivers for change. On day two of the conference, Monica will be speaking on “Collateral Management – What Does This Mean In An Africa Context? How To Source And Pool Collateral For Settlement Participants”
