Strate joined in on the celebrations of Nelson Mandela’s 95th birthday by dedicating its time to the charitable cause of International Mandela Day on 18 July 2013.

During July, employees were given a challenge of either spending 67 minutes of their time cleaning out their cupboard of old clothes and items for people in need or helping the company fill over 67 bags with food, toys, clothes and educational items for children. The Kgosi Neighbourhood Foundation, which was one of the charities that received contributions from Strate, thanked the company for their donations made as a result of Strate’s Mandela Day initiative.

The gift of things that many take for granted – a packet of crisps, a pair of scissors, underwear – have given indescribable joy to our children, and affirmation of human dignity to our parents. Thank you for your continued commitment to the work of our Foundation,” the Foundation wrote in an email to Strate’s CEO.

Mandela Day is one of a number of initiatives in which Strate participates throughout the year. Strate also supports educational and community initiatives, such as Valued Citizen – Strate Siyakhula Project, the Thuthuka Bursary Fund, JSE/Liberty Life Investment Challenge, Smile Foundation and other valuable community programmes.
